“This category is about something that everyone is doing… we are doing it, you are doing it, everyone is making their own Stoner Schematics. Wait! You might be asking yourself, what in the hell is this… Stoner Schematic? Well I am glad that you subconsciously reached into your head and spat out a question such as this for us. Stoner Schematics are Stoner’s (‘hence the name’) Schematics (blueprints, instructions, whatever your vernacular…). It is what the Stoner creates, be it canabutter, some crazy rolling technique, or even just a great way to blow smoke… that is a Stoner Schematic.”

It has been a long time coming since we have made a couple new schematics for Stoner Schematics… but here, Today we are unveiling a simple, easy gravity bong we dub “The Soda”. But first! A little more about the infamous Gravity Bong. Gravity bongs come in all shapes and flavors…
…as you can see. A gravity bong can be made out of pretty much anything ranging from cans to bottles to buckets to bathtubs to lakes to submarines to whatever, which is the reason why it is so awesome… it gives an outstanding versatility that leaves an enormous room for creativity. This is not to mention the fact that gravity bongs (if done right) can give monster rips that can put any Stoner into the couch. A gb works by using different pressures, the lower pressure of the chamber filled with smoke through an opening like a bowl (here a 2 Liter) to the pressure of the air outside which is not in the presence of water molecules (here a 3 Liter) slowing it down against a small opening (bowl). Simply put, you fill a bowl, apply fire, pull the top chamber until it fills with smoke, take off the cap, then push it down to shotgun the smoke into your mouth. On to the Materials.
“The Soda” is a GeeB that is an extremely easy setup that can be made from things that are just around the house. You will require:
- 3 Liter Soda Bottle + cap
- 2 Liter Soda Bottle + cap
- Knife/Scissors or Other Cutting Instrument
- Drill or Lighter ***(Knife will work)
- Bowl, Socket, or a Hose
Obviously, things in this list can be switched around to match what you personally have. Once again, that is the joy of such a bong. The hardest item for this particular bong to procure might be the 3 Liter bottle, as it seems they have faltered in popularity; but if that is the case, I am sure you can come up with a body of water to use. I just advocate for the 3 Liter because it is fairly portable and it fits well with the 2 Liter.
Step 1 – Cutting the Bottles
For this part order does not matter, simply cut the bottom off of the 2 Liter bottle and the top off of the 3 Liter bottle with your cutting instrument. You want to make sure not to cut the 2 Liter too shallow as it will sit too far in the bottom of the 3 Liter, thus getting water in the mouth of the person using it. I suggest using the lines that are usually on those bottles as a guide to remove the top and bottom. If your bottle does not have any guidelines, then try to cut the bottom/top off at the bottle’s transition to neck or bottom stands. If all else fails, look at the picture.
Step 2 – Infusing the Cap and Bowl
A gravity bong is only as good as the cap that it has on top of it, as the cap both creates a seal for smoke and pressure. Here I have placed one that I have already cut out and the one that came with the bottle that I have. My personal preference here is to first measure and then drill out the hole if you have the equipment for that. If not, as I did on the one pictured, take a knife and keep spinning the tip into the cap constantly checking to see if your bowl fits until it is snug. The downside of this method is the fact that if you do not stop cutting the hole it can become too big, uneven, and just leaky in general. An alternative way to make a cap is by using a lighter to continuously melt the cap to a hole that will allow allow the bowl to fit in. After you put the bowl in this setup though, the plastic will conform to the bowl usually making it a little difficult to get it back out. This same method can be used in order to even up some of the edges of the ones that have been cut.
A bowl that has been purchased from a head shop or one from a bong that has gone down in the midst of battle works great here because they usually have nice concave bowls. This is not completely necessary though. A simple fix for lack of a bowl is a socket from a socket set (like the one pictured). These are great and vary in size to match the cap appropriate for your smoking style. I suggest if you have extra screens to sacrifice one and make it a permanent bowl (because if you use the socket enough it will be basically ruined… unless you do some thorough cleaning).
Step 3 – Set it Up and Enjoy
Now all you have to do is set it up. Fill the 3 Liter up to your desired height (between 3/4 to full is good). Put the 3 Liter onto a stable base and then place in the 2 Liter without the cap (makes it go faster, with the bowl all the air has to escape making it take forever) into the water. Screw on the cap with the bowl inside of it (packed with your preference of sticky). Apply fire to the ganja while slowly pulling the top 2 Liter upward to allow the water to level out during the process. After it is filled up to the right amount unscrew the cap, put your lips to the opening and push the 2 Liter down into the water thus shotgunning the smoke for inhalation.
Taking a gravity bong can be a task, but after a bit of practice it will most definitely be something that you will come back to time and time again.
