Grizzly Bear

“Hippies and flower children of the 60’s would always describe one sick beat of any nature as being “Groovy” or “Far out”. We feel the same way. It doesn’t matter if it’s guitar, bass, violin, piano, ukulele, anything! This is the beats that intoxicate our brains, blow our minds, and really send us …well… Far out man.”

grizzly bear veckatimest

Grizzly Bear is a band out of Brooklyn that focuses on the folk/psychedelic smooth music tones. I picked up their album, Veckatimest this weekend and haven’t been able to stop listening; It’s so easy to get lost in the melody of their Harmonic voices if you’re not careful. I thought their video ( Ready, Able) was rather creative with all of the stop animation of the play doh sculptures.

Two weeks has become my favorite track on the CD so far, but their video creeps me out a bit with their freaky ass eyes. I can’t seem to get the lyrics out of my head now that I’ve listened to the track so much lately.

Tame Impala

I came across this band while listening to our local indie rock station and I can’t seem to get them out of my head.  Their name is Tame Impala and the hail from Australia.  They are a psychedelic rock group and a lot of their songs are pretty free flowing and easy to get lost in.  This music video is actually one of their older releases, but i find their new stuff to be the same taste as well.  I just picked this video out because its trippy as shit.   If you get a chance, check out their album “Innerspeaker.”  I’ve been listening to it in the car a lot lately and can’t seem to switch it out.  This definitely won’t be the only post featuring them.

Sean Lennon is one of the successors to the great John Lennon himself (whom needs no back-story nor an explanation of why he would show up on a Stoner Blog…). Sean’s uncanny resemblance to his father in not only in his style of music but also in his physical attributes no doubt has a foothold in why any Beatles lover would transition easily to Sean’s whimsical style. I do not know if I condone Sean’s riding of his fathers coattails as an easy entrance into the music world unlike his half brother Julian, but I must say… I like it.
